The Library of the Curia

Since the restoration of the Society the Bibliotheca Praepositi Generalis Societatis Iesu has collected copies of all books published by Jesuits. At present the practice is that authors send one copy to the library and two if the subject matter deals with the Society. At present the library has about 175,000 books written from 1800 to the present, 206 current periodicals, and 250 periodicals that are no longer published. The library is in the process of becoming a member of the CEIBIB (Conferenza Episcopale Italiana: Biblioteca) and will soon have all its books catalogued on the internet. The library remains private but Jesuits and other scholars can use it with special permission of the librarian.
