After episodes of violence against Christians over the past months (see Headlines July 2008), the Orissa region is again at the centre of international attention. Attacks and brutality against Christian communities by radical Hindu movements have been reported since 23 August, after the murder of Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda. The aggression has been directed against churches, religious houses and social centres, causing death and severe damage. The violence is ongoing.
