SPAIN: GC 36, a mission of the entire Society
From 11 to 14 May, Father General Arturo Sosa visited the Province of Spain, where he met with Jesuits and lay colleagues of Madrid, Valladolid and Alcalá de Henares. During the visit, Fr Sosa reminded the Jesuits of the important mission given by General Congregation 36 not only to the central government, but also to the entire Society. He suggested that the work of General Congregation 36 would be fulfilled through common discernment and apostolic planning, collaboration with the laity, strengthening of communication as an Ignatian heritage and networking. He also insisted on the need for an ecological conversion of the Society of Jesus and urged the Jesuits to help transform culture through education work, in particular by promoting interculturality.

Xavier Learning Community (XLC) had marked its official beginning on August 19, 2017 simply, with a Mass and dinner. This vision evolved from the long-standing Jesuit commitment to education in Thailand. Of the first batch of 44 students admitted in August 2017, the vast majority come from the ethnic minorities. According to Fr Sugiyo Pitoyo, SJ, Superior of the Thailand Jesuit Region, "The Xavier Learning Community is like a small seed sown by the Jesuits that has grown with the support and help of many people. We hope that we will continue to receive the support and prayers of everyone." Read more...
