Jesuits in the process leading to canonization

Many Jesuits have already been recognized by the Church for the holiness of their lives, but only a few men are candidates for beatification or canonization. The "presently active" causes focus on Jesuits for whom an actual interest and devotion exists among Jesuits and the faithful. On the basis of this veneration, the office of the Postulatore Generale of the Society presents to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints a report on the life and virtues of the candidate. As the cause proceeds, the Postulatore closely follows the process, documents the attributed miracles and participates in the preparation of the ceremony.

The most recent canonization of a Jesuit took place in Rome, on October 25, 2005 when his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI canonized St. Alberto Hurtado SJ.
